All-time great stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle is known for not only his impeccable comedic timing, but also his controversial political stances on a myriad of topics.

When Chappelle did a rare stand-up set in New York City Sunday night, he shocked the audience, including Hollywood 411 writer Roger Friedman.

One thing in particular stood out to Friedman:

He began the hour by saying, quite jovially: “This will be a racist show. I’m telling you now.” His jokes about blacks and white were evenly divided. But the subjects of the day were right up there. “Black lives matter is a terrible slogan,” he said. He much prefers Dwayne (sic) Wade’s hashtag “enough is enough.”

You read that correctly. Chappelle said that he thinks “Black Lives Matter” (BLM) is a terrible slogan. While I agree, it was somewhat shocking to read that a man who grew up spending his summers in a hippie community say anything to demean the name of BLM.

Also surprising during his set, which lasted a little over an hour, was that Chappelle admitted to being friends with conservative black commentator and actress, Stacey Dash.

Friedman noted:

…it also turns out that he and his wife are friendly with outspoken conservative black actress Stacey Dash. That gives the argument balance, although he conceded that he and “Stacey are not soulmates.”

It is nice to see someone who you respect as a talent, but might not agree with on everything, come out and be honest about their thoughts and affiliations.
