Despite President Obama’s assurance that his administration is stemming the tide of illegal immigration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports it apprehended about 12,500 illegal alien family units crossing the Southwest U.S. border in the first two months of FY2016.

That number is triple the roughly 4,500 family units caught crossing the border unlawfully during the first two months of FY2015.

Approximately half of those family units caught this year (6,476) crossed in November alone, for a daily apprehension total of about 216 family units per day that month.

On top of family units, CBP also caught 10,588 unaccompanied alien children during the first two months of FY2016, more than double the 5,129 the agency apprehended during that same time period in FY2015.

About 5,600 UACs were caught last month alone.
