According to Allan Lichtman, President Donald Trump is going to be impeached. The “most serious” reason why is for “crimes against humanity” based on “cataclysmic climate change.”

Lichtman is the author of “The Case for Impeachment” and a professor of history at American University.

He recently made his case at the Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington.

"I know we associate crimes against humanity typically with genocide…however, the International Criminal Court, which prosecutes genocide, has recently put a new priority on crimes against the environment which would include cataclysmic climate change," he said. "In 2009 a group of businesses men wrote a letter to then-president Barack Obama, this is more than seven years ago, and they said, the science is irrefutable, irrefutable, that unless we take strong action against climate change the consequences are going to be catastrophic for our planet. They went on to say doing this will not hurt the economy it will help the economy by moving us into a new economic era. Guess who signed that letter? Donald J. Trump, Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, Trump and Donald Jr."

"What has changed in seven plus years?" Lichtman continued. "The science is even more compelling. Over 97 percent of scientists who publish in this area are in agreement. The threat is more immediate and more urgent; you can read about it every day. So what has changed is only Donald Trump’s political calculation that to make it in the Republican Party he had to join the discredited ranks of the deniers or at minimum of the skeptics. And he has taken so many policies that not only halted progress in dealing with climate change throttled back progress. "

"He has taken so many policies that not only halt progress in dealing with climate change, but throttle back progress. The Donald Trump of 2009 would be the first one calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump today," Lichtman said.

Lichtman’s other reasons for removing the president: charges of treason with Russia, abuse of power and emoluments violations, and offenses committed before he took office. Among those alleged potential offenses, Lichtman lists Trump’s housing violations, charity problems, potential violations of the Cuba embargo and Trump University.

“My book is not a rant against Donald Trump,” Lichtman said at the end of his talk.
