Anti-Semitism is, unfortunately, nothing new - especially in major cities like NYC. But in the wake of Israel’s war on Hamas following the slaughter of more than 1,200 Israelis by the Palestinian terrorist group, attacks on Jews in the U.S. and around the world have only escalated.

And the Big Apple is no exception.

The NYPD said a woman was punched in the face by a random stranger on the New York City subway this week, adding the assailant told the victim he assaulted her simply because she was Jewish.

The attacker, a dark-skinned bearded male according to photos released by authorities, reportedly strolled up to the 29-year-old woman in the Manhattan subway station at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday and decked her in a bizarre and completely unprovoked assault. Obviously shocked and hurt, the woman still had enough sense about her to ask the man why he’d punched her in the face. His response? “You are Jewish,” police said.

The young woman sustained minor injuries, but is expected to be okay - physically, at least. Whether she feels safe enough to walk around her own neighborhood without fear of being randomly clobbered by a hateful bigot is probably another story.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the incident and released images of the suspect Wednesday in hopes of making an arrest.
