It’s not funny. It’s not. And we definitely, definitely shouldn’t be laughing at it.
Oh….oh, but we are.
French Olympic diver Alexis Jandard certainly made a splash this week at the opening ceremony for a brand new, $160 million venue in Paris set to host the Summer Games. The event was meant to display French divers’ skills, and featured multiple athletes who’ve been selected to represent France in the upcoming games. Audience attendees included French President Emmanuel Macron, among others.
Which is probably not who you want to wipe out in front of. Unfortunately for Jandard, things didn’t exactly go as planned. On his very first step-up to the board, which hovered some 33 feet in the air...well, this happened:

Whoopsie.
Thankfully, Jandard wasn’t seriously injured, and seemed to take it all in stride with a post on X reading, "For your information, my back is fine, but my ego..." along with a photo of the scrapes on his back.

He also made appearances on a few media outlets, where he said he was glad his screw-up was making people laugh.
Which, again, we are definitely not doing.
