Bozell Challenges Univision's Ramos to Debate on Journalistic Ethics

Craig Bannister | August 29, 2016

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell is challenging Univision anchor Jorge Ramos to a debate after Ramos appeared on CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday to talk defend his ability to fairly cover the 2016 presidential election after he called on journalists to abandon “neutrality” in order to defeat Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“We have to take a stand” against Trump, Ramos told CNN’s Brian Stelter,  responding to Bozell’s call on Friday for Ramos to be suspended from covering the election, due to the anchorman's public stance against GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Bozell calls Ramos’ claims “laughable,” noting that it is “laughable” for a journalist to issue an “outright condemnation of one of the candidates” and calling on other journalists to openly practice political activism to take down a presidential candidate.

Ramos’ political activism and bias render him unfit to cover the election, Bozell declared while challenging Ramos to a debate on journalistic ethics.

MRC President Brent Bozell:

"Jorge Ramos' contention on CNN's Reliable Sources that he is "just a journalist asking questions" is laughable. For more than a year now, Ramos has gone far beyond just asking questions in his coverage of the presidential race. As Fox's Megyn Kelly pointed out to him when he appeared on her show last week, Ramos is issuing outright condemnations of one of the candidates, openly taking sides and urging other journalists to follow him in doing the same.

“It is unprecedented for a journalist to bring this level of activism to the news anchor desk of a national broadcast network. Ramos could not be more clearly invested in favoring one candidate over the other, and it should be clear to everyone that he is no longer capable of delivering election news to Univision's audience with even a modicum of fairness.

“At this point, Ramos is doing a great disservice to both his viewers and the field of journalism by continuing to parade himself as anything other than a political activist. I challenge Ramos to a debate at a venue of his convenience about the proper role of journalists and the media in our society."
