"Most" of the nation's homophobes are presidential candidates, Vice President Joe Biden declared in a speech on Saturday.
Touting the "importance of full federal LGBT equality" while appearing as the keynote speaker at the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) 19th Annual National Dinner Saturday, Biden said that the American people are more supportive of his LGBT agenda than those in Congress.
“There are still those shrill voices in the national political arena, trying to undo what’s finally been done but they're not going to succeed,” Biden said. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Sincerely, the American people have moved so far beyond them and their appeals to prejudice and fear and homophobia. And because of how far you’d move the American people – the reminder of the work and much work has to be done, I promise you, we’ll come much more quickly and more surely.”
Biden then declared that "most" of the nation's homophobes "are running for president."
"The American people are already with you, look at the numbers. Oh, there’s homophobes still left! Most of them are running for president, I think.”
