Are You Ready For the 'Meat of the Future'?

Ben Graham | October 8, 2015

Dutch scientist Mark Post has been making waves in Europe for his work in creating “cultured beef.” Using stem cells harvested from cows, Post has been able to create completely lean burger patties.

Dubbed the "meat of the future," Post's patties are pale in color and bland in taste, but Post is confident his research will make farm animals obsolete for the benefit of all.

"I think most people just don't realize that the current meat production is at its maximum and is not going to supply sufficient meat for the growing demand in the next 40 years, so we need to come up with an alternative, there's no question. And this can be an ethical and environmentally friendly way to produce meat,” Post said of his burgers.

Post is a professor of Vascular Physiology at Maastricht University where he also serves as Chair of Physiology and Vice Dean of Biomedical Technology.
