Adorable Penguins Help Make this Christmas Ad Go Viral

This Christmas ad for John Lewis, a British department store, is going viral online. The ad was released today, but within 24 hours it already had 200,000 shares and its own tie-in, “Monty the Penguin,” a children’s book.

Maybe something is lost in translation, but I don't see the appeal of this ad. What do you think: heartwarming or boring?
