Farmer Sprays Manure at Actress Emma Thompson Over Anti-Fracking Protest

Well, it really hit the fan in Lancashire, England on Wednesday.

A farmer attempted to spray Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson and her sister after Thompson broke an injunction in order to stage an anti-fracking protest on the farmer’s land.

According to the Telegraph, energy company Cuadrilla had an agreement to frack for shale gas on the farmer’s property.

An injunction banning protests on the land has been in place since 2014. The farmer was understandably upset at this infraction, because he wanted to get to work on his land. So he proceeded to use a muck spreader filled with manure to spray the area, just barely missing Thompson and the “renewable energy-themed cakes” she'd brought to the protest.

The Telegraph reported that Thompson staged the Greenpeace-backed “Frack Free Bake-Off” so they could “show the government that we will not allow fracking to scar our countryside and fuel yet more climate change.”

Kate Styles, a local cake shop owner, took part in the “Bake-Off” and rebuffed the farmer's attempt to discourage the protest.

"The stink was temporary - unlike the impact of fracking on this community if Cuadrilla gets their way,” Styles said.

United Kingdom Onshore Oil and Gas Chief Executive Ken Cronin called the situation involving Thompson hypocritical.

"It is ironic that a celebrity, who uses gas stoves in videos to promote her own cook books, and her sister, who described Britain as ‘a cake-filled misery-laden grey old island’, should want to attempt to hijack the UK’s love of baking for an ill-conceived publicity stunt," said Cronin.

These celebrities seem to be all for “saving the Earth,” as long as the restrictions they like to preach to others does not apply to them.
