Sen. Harry Reid (R-Nev.) has had a pretty disgraceful run these 28 years he’s been in office, and here are some of the worst moments:

1. In 2007, during the height of the troop surge in Iraq, Reid said:

“…this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq yesterday.”

2. Harry Reid has claimed that he is “pro-life” even though NARAL Pro-Choice America gave him a 100% rating several years of his Senate term.  Planned Parenthood Action Committee, another anti-life group, has also given him high marks for several years.

3. Harry Reid hit waaay below the belt during Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful run for president against Barack Obama. Reid said that Romney’s father George “must be so embarrassed about his son” Mitt because George Romney turned over 12 years of tax returns ahead of his 1968 presidential run. Reid then told the Huffington Post that an unnamed, unverifiable Bain investor had told him Romney “didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years.”

“Now, do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain. But obviously he can’t release those tax returns. How would it look? … You guys have said his wealth is $250 million. Not a chance in the world. It's a lot more than that. I mean, you do pretty well if you don't pay taxes for 10 years when you're making millions and millions of dollars.”

This was a “pants on fire” lie, according to Politifact.

Reid didn’t back off, though.

From the Senate floor, he ranted:

“So, the word’s out that he hasn’t paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn’t. We already know from one partial tax return that he gave us, he has money hidden in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and a Swiss banking account. Mitt Romney makes more money in a single day than the average middle-class family makes in two years or more.”

When Nevada reporters demanded that Reid provide a source for this allegation, he refused to elaborate further, saying that “a number of people” told him Romney didn’t pay taxes and  "I don't think the burden should be on me. The burden should be on him. He's the one I've alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn't he release his tax returns?”

Okay – so make unsubstantiated claim (read: lie,) then demand that Romney disprove it. Sounds legit.

4. Harry Reid is one of the “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians,” according to Judicial Watch. What earned him this ranking? It’s hard to know where to start: Reid helped his sons with tens of millions of dollars worth of deals, including one from a Chinese green energy group; was involved in an alleged $600,000 bribery deal, made sure that a bridge was built from a gambling town to an area where he owned 160 undeveloped acres. Price tag? $21.5 million. That’s just the surface of the corrupt schemes Reid’s allegedly involved in.

5. On Wednesday March 26, 2014, Harry Reid called Americans who lost coverage due to Obamacare “liars.”

Then two days later on Friday March 26, he said he never said that - as if there wasn’t videotaped proof.

Sorry, Reid, but we don’t all have dementia.

6. Harry Reid defended glitchy healthcare.gov by claiming that people were having trouble getting on the site because “people are not educated on how to use the internet.”
