Remember when First Lady Michelle Obama declared that steak and arugula were her favorite foods – and her vow to swear off French fries? Well, now, the nation’s top advocate for healthful eating says pizza and fries are her favorites.

When Mrs. Obama was asked to declare her favorite food yesterday during a question and answer session with children at the White House, she boldly touted the wonders of pizza and fries:

CHILD:  “And my favorite -- my question is, what’s your favorite food?”

MRS. OBAMA:  “Favorite what?”

CHILD:  “Your favorite food.”

MRS. OBAMA:  “Favorite food -- hands down, pizza.  Pizza!  (Laughter.)  Don’t you all agree?”

CHILDREN:  “Yes!”

MRS. OBAMA:  “Pizza is the ultimate food, because it can be a junk food, it can be healthy.  Like, almost every Friday I’ll eat, like, a veggie pizza on wheat.  Now, that may not be something you like, but I like it.  You can have dessert pizza.  You can do anything with pizza.  It’s a very versatile, universally loved food.  And I like French fries.”

Tell that to the schoolkids using the #THANKSMICHELLEOBAMA hashtag to protest the distasteful meals inflicted on them by the First Lady’s menu mandates, or the school lunch programs suffering plummeting participation and bleeding red ink. Back in her first term in the White House, Mrs. Obama touted steak and arugula as her favorite foods. And, more recently, she declared she was “making a vow” to swear off French fries. It appears there has, indeed, been “change” at the White House.

Maybe, her husband has been a (bad? good?) influence on her over the years. Pres. Obama loves pizza so much, he’s even had his favorite pizza-maker flown 860 miles to the White House to make some for him. He’s even given a plug for the St. Louis pizza shop during his weekly video address to the nation.

Fortunately, Pi Pizzeria has now come to the Nation’s Capital, so there’s no need to fly someone in the next time the President and First Lady are in the mood for a slice.
