26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer killed ten people and injured seven more in a murderous rampage Thursday morning on the campus of Umpqua Community College (UCC) in Roseburg, Ore. The shooter has, reportedly, been “neutralized” and is now dead.

Eleven of those injured have been transported to nearby hospitals, three by helicopter. Mercy Medical Center, a hospital five miles away from the school, reported that it had received nine patients and was expecting three more.

Student Larry Howell was en route to class when he saw fellow students running all around him. ”I turned around. I heard 'active shooter,' and I didn't need to be told twice,” Howell told NBC News.

"Everybody is reaching out to one another and checking on everyone. We don't know which one of our colleagues are down," Howell added.

Federal agents from the FBI and ATF are also responding to the incident, many traveling great distances to reach the scene.

UCC has about 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students and began teaching in rented facilities in 1961.
