Chris Christie explains why competition is good for schools:
This is one of those issues where I am honestly disgusted and amazed at the opposing view. Make sure you watch Christie's video intently because, as much as it sounds like it, he isn't joking at all. Teachers' unions HATE, absolutely HATE, any system that would judge teachers' performances.
Teachers' unions are hell bent on keeping failed teachers and the failed system they work in employed at all costs. Think teachers who pass out drunk in class, hit children, or molest them should be fired? Teachers' unions disagree with you. Think there may have been more than 4 bad teachers in the LA school district over the past ten years? Teacher's unions disagree with you.
Heck, even if you think that the good teachers that most certainly exist in our public school system should be rewarded for their hard work the teachers' unions still disagree with you. In fact, I would argue, that the entire point of teachers' unions is to keep bad teachers employed by making sure they're never, EVER, compared to the good teachers. Teachers' unions hoist the dead weight of bad teachers on the backs of good teachers and, ultimately, students to their detriment.
The merit-based pay system that Chris Christie wants to implement in New Jersey will reward good teachers. His plan is nothing more than common sense which will vastly improve education in that state. Of course the teachers' union and their allies will crucify him for it.
The whole situation is mindbogglingly disgusting... especially given whats at stake.
