Crist, Rubio in Dead Heat for Florida Senate
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - 7:59am
Republican Marco Rubio and the Republican-turned-Independent Charlie Crist are virtually tied according to the latest survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports.
The telephone survey of likely voters finds both Rubio and Crist tied at 37 percent of the vote, while the Democrat, Kendrick Meek, trails far behind with only 15 percent. Eleven (11) percent of those surveyed are undecided.
Just one month ago, Rubio held an 8 point advantage over Crist. Sixty (60) percent of Florida voters now approve of the job Governor Crist is doing, up 3 points from just one month ago. Crist has been particularly visible during the Gulf oil spill, perhaps the main factor behind his resurgence.
Controversy
Recently, the GOP party head was arrested due to alleged financial irregularities. However, only half of the voters polled said they are following news reports on the arrest and controversy closely.
How will this affect the race?
Thirty-nine (39) percent say that Crist will be hurt by the ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities in the state Republican Party- 31 percent believe Rubio will be hurt the most.
Seventy-four (74) percent say a probe into the state Republican Party and it's outcomes is an important factor in how they will vote come election time. Out of the 74 percent of people who say it's important, 47 percent believe it's very important.
The Rasmussen Report telephone survey was conducted on June 7, 2010, as 500 people were polled. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
