“I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July." The students who left class made their way over to City Hall for a rally, and then returned back to school around 90 minutes later. Today, some parents at Live Oak High School are keeping their children home because of the incident. Daniel Galli, one of the students sent home because of his T-shirt, told NBC, “"They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today." "They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic Maciel, Galli's friend, said. Maciel’s mother was furious at the school administrations decision. "I think it's absolutely ridiculous," Julie Fagerstrom said.” All they were doing was displaying their patriotic nature. They're expressing their individuality." Administrators at Live Oak High School said they've been receiving violent threats. One individual threatened to shoot up the school or plant a bomb, in which the sheriff told NBC he is highly concerned about.
