Take II: 'Saturday Night' Bailout Humor
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 - 8:11am
"Saturday Night Live" has posted an edited version of its deleted bailout skit that skewered Democrats and their allies.
As expected, the video is missing a graphic that identified former bank owners Herb and Marion Sandler as "people who should be shot" for their alleged role in triggering a financial crisis. The Sandlers complained about the skit but did not seek changes, "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels told the Los Angeles Times blog "Show Tracker."
But the Times blog "Top Of The Ticket" reports that something else is missing, too -- a joke about Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.
In the original skit Sandler addresses Frank, saying, "And thank you, Congressman Frank, as well as many Republicans, for helping block congressional oversight of our corrupt activities." To which Frank replies enthusiastically, "Not at all!" All that's gone in the new version.Gone, too, is the image of the character playing Marion Sandler kissing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. But we have restored that stretch of the Sandlers bit at Eyeblast.tv. Go here to watch it. -- K. Daniel Glover
