    During an interview with Larry King, HBO's Bill Maher went on a diatribe about the stupidity of the American people because he is dumbfounded by the two-thirds of Americans who believe that offshore drilling will lower gas prices.

Not realizing he was about to insult the average caller to his show, along with the millions who watch, King simply asked Maher if he agreed with essayist H.L. Menken who said, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."
