CEO and Pulitzer Playwright Add Their Voices to Growing Opposition to DEI

A Pulitzer Prize winner and the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company have contributed their perspectives to the growing backlash against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) ideology.

On Sunday, The Los Angeles Times published an interview with Pulitzer award-winning playwright and screenwriter David Mamet, which included his castigation of DEI ideology. Mamet minced no words concerning his perception of DEI, referring to it as “garbage” and “fascist totalitarianism.” Mamet especially took exception to the DEI quotas associated with screen awards, that such awards could not be earned “unless you have 7% of this, 8% of that ... it’s intrusive.”

Mamet is not the only prominent figure who has recently taken exception to what he calls “diversity capos” and “diversity commissars.” In December, Palantir CEO Alexander Karp spoke as part of a panel at the Reagan National Defense Forum. Karp, who espouses left-wing opinions, nonetheless chided college students for “breathing the vapors of a dangerous, new, fake and self-destructive religion.”

What’s more, DEI zealotry could hurt a college graduate’s chances of getting a job at his company, Karp said:

“When you’re sitting at your elite school pretending because you watched TikTok twice and got an A plus on some crazy paper because your professor couldn’t get a job anywhere else that you actually understand the world, you’re not welcome at my company.”

Mamet and Karp are part of a much larger celebrity contingent that are becoming discontented with the promulgation of DEI.

Dr. Phil denounced DEI on a recent show as “Marxism” and argued “you can't create equality of outcome. What gives a DEI program the right to come in and try and alter the nature of things to create equality of outcome?” In addition, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk referred to DEI as “racist” and implied that businesses that concern themselves with DEI are similar to those who loudly supported the #MeToo movement, in order to hide previous transgressions.

Considering that even left-leaning heads of business are becoming fed up with DEI, as time goes on, it seems that the cavalcade of public figures who are opposed to left-wing diversity ideology will only continue to grow.
